Resolutions of Yorktown meeting

The following resolutions have been approved by a group of individuals, whose names are given in the annex, from 45 companies and organisations from 12 countries who have attended the second FIPA meeting.

  1. Participants would like to thanks all companies and individuals who have shared their views on applications, requirements and agent technologies of potential FIPA interest. All participants will receive a copy of all presentations made at this meeting. The set of presentations may be given to people who will request it.

  1. Document FIPA6602 giving a framework for FIPA activity is approved. Messrs. D. Connolly, A. Mamdani, D. Sadek and D. Steiner are thanked for their efforts. An ad-hoc group to improve the framework until the next meeting is established (fipa6606)

  1. Document FIPA6603 giving a list of applications benefiting from FIPA specifications is approved. Messrs. N. Azarmi, A. Leger and Y.-B. Kim are thanked for their efforts. An ad-hoc group to improve the list of applications until the next meeting is established (fipa6607)

  1. Document FIPA6604 giving a list of requirements for FIPA-specified agent capabilities is approved. Messrs. M. Belgrave, T. Bouron, A. Cheyer, I. Dickinson and D. Steiner are thanked for their efforts. An ad-hoc group to improve the list of requirements until the next meeting is established (fipa6608)

  1. Document FIPA6605 giving a list of agent capabilities candidate for specification in 1997 is approved. Messrs. M. Busuioc, H. Christensen, D. Connolly, G. Granlund, K. Karlson, P. Kearney and D. Sadek are thanked for their efforts. An ad-hoc group to improve the list of candidate agent capabilities until the next meeting is established (fipa6609)

  1. Documents FIPA6602, 6603, 6604 and 6605 should be widely distributed and comments solicited. At the next meeting every effort will be made to take into account comments made by whomever.

  1. The FIPA Workplan is approved.

8. Everybody is invited to submit descriptions of applications with precise identification of agent capabilities needed to implement them. Reference has to be made to the list of agent capabilities identified in fipa6605. A set of representative applications will be selected in October to identify the specific agent capabilities that will be specified in 1997 and included in the Call for Proposals.

9. The next FIPA meeting will be held in Tokyo, Japan on 7 to 11 October 1996 at the kind invitation of NHK. Purpose of the meeting will be:

10. Some agent technologies are maturing and ready to be specified, however, the field is still undergoing a fast evolution. FIPA should consider establishing Special Interest Groups (SIG) to monitor progress in emerging agent technology areas and advise on the introduction of new specification items in the FIPA Workplan.

11. The FIPA Statutes as amended at this meeting are approved (fipa6610).

12. L. Chiariglione will execute all necessary actions leading to the establishment of FIPA in Switzerland by the time of the October meeting. Information will be given to all Yorktown meeting attendees of the time and place of the establishment of FIPA in Switzerland. Any company that attended the London or Yorktown meeting is allowed to attend.

14. Chiariglione will prepare a powerpoint presentation of FIPA. Ad-hoc group chairs will contribute a page on their groups' activities. The powerpoint file will be sent to all participant and will be made downloadable from the home page.

15. Participants would like to express their thanks to IBM Corp. for hosting this meeting and providing the environment and support for achieving the ambitious goals of this meeting. In particular the now grandfather Peter Schirling and Renee Lucchesi Walker, Linda Fastiggi, Chuck Treppeda, Jenni Hall, Jan Read, Colleen Dew, Don Gilbert and Jon Connell.
